2004 ROCO Pinot Noir (Private Stash)

In 2004 the Soles' decided to make a second estate grown ROCO Pinot Noir that will be available in select markets throughout the U.S and on the ROCO Web site. The double-bird image label distinguishes the second bottling from the ROCO (Private Stash), which has a single bird image. Approximately 280 cases of '04 ROCO were produced.

The Soles' prefer not to tell the consumer how the wine tastes, but instead ask the consumer to discover the full essence of the wine on his or her own. THAT, they believe is the true mystery and delight of the wine. Thus, you won't find any tasting notes on the ROCO label. Still, many people request descriptors of the wine for a variety of reasons and can find tasting notes on the ROCO Website.

2004 ROCO Tasting Notes

He says, "Upon sampling our first bottle of the '04 Private Stash I found the wine aromas to be reminiscent of huckleberry leather, cardamom spice, and a tinge of granite followed by a bit of honeysuckle blossom at the very end. The texture was very creamy and yields in the mouth the very flavors that were revealed in the nose; huckleberry, spice, river gravel and paprika with a long juicy centered blackberry finish. The fruit component builds with time in the glass. Like a big chocolate layer cake iced in huckleberries and topped in rose petals."

She says, "When I put the glass to my nose I immediately had visions of traveling the ancient spice routes. I got a big hit of cinnabar, nutmeg and dusty cobblestones. The flavors in the mouth followed suite with rich spices enhanced by deep blackberry. Throughout dinner the wine continued to open in the mouth and rendered ripe strawberry flavors, cinnamon, tumeric and a touch of clove. A rich, complex and bold glass of Pinot not afraid to be what it is."

The Winemaker's 2004 Vintage Notes

A distinctive sense of place has emerged in ROCO Pinot Noirs. All four vintages score high for a wonderful mixture of red fruit-layered on top of rich black fruit characters finished with a topping of spice. These are the very flavors sought after in the vines and wines of the north Willamette Valley.
